CGFNS Qualifying Exam question format changes to model the NCLEX-RN Exam
The United States nurse licensure exam has added different types of questions to their exam's basic format. Since the CGFNS exam predicts success on the U.S. licensure examination, CGFNS also has added these types of questions to their test.
There are three types of questions on your examination. All of the items in the morning booklet and all but one or two of the items in your afternoon booklet are the usual standard multiple-choice items with only one correct answer.
The second type of question is a standard, multiple-choice question with a picture or a graph, also with only one correct answer.
In the third type of question, one or more of the four options may be correct. You must choose if each option is correct or incorrect. You will mark A if the option is correct, or B if the option is incorrect. You must fill in one circle only for each numbered option.
These new questions are in the afternoon booklet and are assigned randomly. You may get one or two of these new items - or you may not get any.
All exams are of equal difficulty. Booklets containing the different item types are neither easier nor more difficult than those without the new questions.
General Instructions This is a test of your knowledge of current nursing practice in the United States. The items reflect the thinking of many instructors who prepare nursing students for licensure as registered nurses. Each item in this test has four possible answers. Read each item carefully. Select the one answer from the options presented that you think answers the item correctly. There is only one correct answer for each numbered item. You are to mark your answers on the separate answer sheet, NOT in the test booklet. When marking your answer sheet, darken only one circle for each item. Darken the circle completely. If you decide to change your answer, erase your original answer thoroughly, or your new answer may be scored incorrectly. Make no stray marks on your answer sheet. You MUST use a No. 2 pencil.
1. Standard multiple-choice item:

2. Multiple-correct answer item: Directions: The question below is followed by four choices numbered 109-112. If a choice is correct, mark A in the space provided. If a choice is NOT correct, mark B. Blacken one circle _ on your answer sheet for each number. The central nervous system is comprised of which of the following parts of anatomy? 109. (Select A or B.) Brain 110. (Select A or B.) A B. B C. C D. D The correct answer to item 3 is D.
Your score on this test is the number of items you answer correctly. There is no penalty for guessing, so it is to your advantage to answer each item. Remember:
1. Read each item carefully. 2. Select that ONE of the suggested answers that BEST answers the item. 3. Indicate your answer by making a solid black mark with a No. 2 pencil in the proper space on the answer sheet. If you blacken more than one space for an item, you will receive no credit for that item. 4. Erase thoroughly all stray pencil marks on your answer sheet. If you don't, your answers may be scored incorrectly. 5. Work in a systematic manner, and do not spend too much time on any one item.
